Hike near Mailbox Peak
Posted by Troy at 4:49 PM
The weather yesterday was cool and overcast, great hiking weather, so we set out to do a hike in our book. Unfortunately, the road was closed (a problem we've had before), so we stopped nearby where a lot of other cars were parked. We didn't know what trail it was, but we figured we'd try it out and turn around if we didn't like it. Not too far along the way, we saw the name of the trail: Mailbox Peak. That hike was also in our book, but we decided not to do it because it's pretty difficult, as the sign at the trailhead warned us. So, not wanting to hike to the top of Mailbox Peak, we followed along another trail, which appeared to have been used by vehicles at some time. It was a quiet trail and went over some mountain streams. The surface was rather rocky, but it wasn't very steep. It was a decent trail, but nothing too exciting, so after about 30 minutes, we turned around and went back to the car.

Does your cell phone usually work on such hikes? And do you know why it's called Mailbox Peak?
Yeah, I normally have reception, however I noticed that we didn't have reception on this one.
It's called mailbox peak because the hikers register at the peak is stored in a mailbox.
